INFORMATION ABOUT US:
Louis Parberry Senior started a second hand store in 1923 at 701 Holly St, in Bellingham, WA. In 1941 he was joined by his son Louis Parberry Jr, "Mayor Lou of Old Town", and they moved the business to 800 W Holly and added the scrap yard to the business. Over the years Lou Jr was involved in many different businesses in this area of town. In the early 1970's Lou Jr along with three other partners started Northwest Recycling located in the 1800 block of State St. Lou bought out the other partners around 1976 and moved Northwest Recycling to the corner of E St and Holly. Brian Parberry joined his father and started running Northwest Recycling in 1980. He moved the business to it's current location on C St and Astor in 1985. He worked with the City of Bellingham and developed the sorting line in 1990 to process curbside recycling program that the city wanted to add to our garbage collection program. Over the years Brian as conformed the center to fit the current recycling needs of the community. Brian is currently researching the recyclibility of small electronics. In 1992, Brian and Lou closed Parberry Scrap yard and spent two years performing an environmental clean up, installing an impermeable surface and oil separator/water runoff catch basins before re-opening the scrap year under Northwest Recycling at the end of 1993. 1997 the business expanded into the surrounding property on the corner of D and Astor, thereby operating on two and a half city blocks in "Old Town". In 2003 a satellite warehouse was opened on Kentucky St. Marty Kuljis, Lou's grandson joined the team in 1996. Graduating from Western Washington University with a Business degree, Marty assists with the business operations and organization. Today Northwest Recycling is still a local family owned and operated business, offering a wide range of services. We are currently working with the city to relocate our recycling services and revitalizing our "Old Town" properties. Keep watching as we continue to change to provide services for our community. Northwest Recycling is a member of the Washington State Recycling Association and the Institute of Scrap Metal Industries.
